North Hastings Community Cupboard
The "Food Hub/Center" for North Hastings
Emergency food services for Bancroft & surrounding areas in collaboration with surrounding rural food banks.
Our Mission | To identify poverty and food insecurity issues and to respond with innovative programs, services, and community partnerships that support individuals, families, and the surrounding communities. |
Our Vision | We envision North Hastings as a thriving, abundant, and healthy community that is free of hunger and poverty! |
North Hastings Community Cupboard (The Cupboard) has been serving the region as a registered and licensed food bank since 1992. We belong to Feed Ontario (formerly Ontario Association of Food Banks), Food Banks Canada, and are a Good Food Organization under the Community Food Centers Canada. We are a registered charity and have been fortunate to own our building, allowing more funds to be diverted directly to providing service. The Cupboard established Bancroft's first community gardens located at the Community Future's Development, eventually relocating the gardens onsite at 2 Madawaska Street, our current home.
Being THE food hub/center and leader in North Hastings County, we've worked hard to forge excellent relationships with the smaller rural food banks in the communities of Maynooth, Tri-Township Food Basket in Coe Hill, and Word of Life Outreach's Lake St Peter food bank to share food supplies and other resources. Smaller food banks are challenged in obtaining adequate food supplies and also often have storage issues. It's important to address the unique challenges faced by more remote regions in rural North Hastings.
We also share/trade resources with food banks in WIlberforce, Cardiff, and SIRCH Haliburton.
Gleaner's Food Bank in Belleville is our parent hub through Feed Ontario and has designated warehouse space for The Cupboard to obtain more food supplies for all food banks in the north. We are proud to be leaders in addressing food insecurity in collaboration with so many dedicated and passionate rural food banks!
